The unusual flag which represents the Central African Republic, and was adopted in 1958, consists of four equally sized horizontal stripes, with an equally sized vertical red stripe running down the center. The horizontal stripes appear, from top to bottom, in blue, white, green, and yellow. A yellow five-point star floats on the blue stripe in the top left-hand corner.
